I have always adored the old versions of this cover. I played the fuck out of that song and serpent from Adams 1-8-04 boot after my grandpa died. Just those 2 songs over and over and crying. It helped immensely.

Jeff's voice has such an earnest quality to it. I just adore him. His writing is also some of my favorite EVER. He paints such beautiful pictures in my mind.

On this note, what originals (if any) do you prefer over Dax's versions?

For me the list is pretty short, but I would probably take T. Rex's originals of Cosmic Dancer and Mystic Lady over Dax's, and the couple of Mickey Newbury songs that he's done, too. I love Dax's covers but I just think in these cases that the originals are extremely difficult to top.

I really like his Mickey Newbury covers but the originals are awesome as well. Mickey has a great voice.
